In addition, throughout all of our work, DRL champions the inclusion and equality of all people by leading Department of State efforts to advance the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons, persons with disabilities and indigenous persons and supporting initiatives to promote gender equality, racial equity, including through foreign assistance programming. Within this broader framework, DRL’s mission is to advance human rights, bolster democratic institutions, empower civil society, and independent journalists, and uphold internationally recognized worker rights through bilateral and multilateral multilateral stakeholder engagement, public and private messaging, and, most relevant for today’s discussion, through foreign assistance programs. US leadership in promoting democracy and human rights is critical to global security, prosperity, and defending the international order. The promotion of democracy and human rights is central to the Biden administration’s foreign policy and to the US national security agenda. This is an important event for the DRL Bureau as it gives us the opportunity to share important details of our grants management process in coordination with our colleagues across the State Department. We want to also we want to thank you for the critical work that your organizations do and to express the US government’s unwavering support to civil society organizations on the front lines around the world who are promoting democracy and protecting human rights.
